Down in Woods Hole there’s this place…. It’s called Pie in the Sky, and it’s pretty much the embodiment of everything awesome. They spend all night baking these amazing goodies and roasting this amazing coffee (yep, freshly roasted every night! Organic too! How cool is that?), so that when I stumble in every morning I can have mouth watering goodness and super tasty caffeine. Well, it’s not just for me. It’s for you too, and everyone else! If you’ve never been, I can’t stress how much you’re missing out. The best part is that the owner and his staff are quite possibly the nicest, most community minded folk you can imagine. In it for the love doesn’t even begin to describe them. Click here and see for yourself…
Our pals over at Trout Towers invited us to check out the Cape Cod Pops. I don’t normally go to classical music events, though in my more psychotic moments I have been known to listed to it on the radio. Couple classical music with having a picnic on a beautiful summer evening, throw in liberal amounts of hor devours and (of course!) Cape Cod Red , some great company, and even freshly made brownies, and you have a recipe for awesome that I certainly can’t deny!
The show was amazing! It’s funny how we register so much music without realizing it. I bet I knew almost every song without having consciously listened to it before (except the Disney songs). I was especially fond of a tune that recollected the sounds of a typewriter, pretty neat (is that an example of what we now call sampling, only from ages past? Hmm….). They had a guest vocalist who was only 24 years old, and she was incredible! Expect to see C.O.D track her down for an interview sooner than later.
Hope you all had a great weekend, and if you get the chance, head to the Island Merchant tonight for a very special acoustic show with Mr. McCloskey~!
Whew! I don’t know about you, but I think I’m still recovering from last night! As usual Don and the gang put on an amazing show, the ‘Comber was fantastic (steak tip sandwiches!), and Ben and Erica even made the trek down (that means you can expect some great pics in the new C.O.D!). If you missed the show last night, or even if you didn’t, you can catch Don this Sunday at the Island Merchant, playing a special acoustic show. Think he’s great with a band? You have to check out his solo stuff! Feel like you missed out last night (or is a recollection of last night missing)? Check the evidence in the photo gallery.
Ladies n’ Gentlemen, tonight, for the last time this summer, catch the irrepressible Don McCloskey LIVE at the Wellfleet Beachcomber with special guests Apex Groove!
Hey!
Looking for pics from last weekend’s Naukabout Festival? We just added a couple hundred to the photo gallery!
Hey! If you don’t already know, this Saturday at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds the first Cape music festival in like 20 years is gonna go down! Gates open at 12:30 sharp, so be there, we will be!
Last night we headed down to Wellfleet for a surprise birthday party starring none other than the queen of the Sonic Trout Susan Blood! It’s safe to say that a good time was had by all, hard not to what with entertainment from the incredibly casual Chandler Travis and his Philharmonic, and amazing fish tacos from the Juice. Definitely worth the drive! Anyway, all you guys want are pictures, so here you go… Happy Birthday Susan!
Last night we co hosted a show with our pals at Grumpy’s Pub featuring the ska / reggae / dub sounds of Spiritual Rez. These guys have been around for a while, and have a huge following, with danged good reason. They took the stage to a rapidly filling house, and from all reports had the crowd dancing like dervishes all night long. If you weren’t there, you should have been!
Hey!
Okay, so issue 3 is on the streets, and I dare say it’s the best one yet. One little thing… Seems we had a slight oversite, and I want to get it cleared up right quick! The Spiritual Rez album review should have had four, count ‘em, four stars. Not two. This may seem like a small thing to nit pick and devote a whole blog entry to, but you have to see the bigger picture. One, they rock, plain and simple. Two, they rock hard enough that we agreed to sponsor a show of theirs tonight at Grumpy’s Pub in Falmouth. Three, I certainly don’t want to turn anyone off to a great group because of a typo. There’s enough crappy music out there that you should certainly make sure people can find the good stuff.
That said, the rest of the issue is bangin’. Bloody? Yes. Funny? Yes. Enough to read through several trips to the can? Absolutely.
See you tonight at the show!
